IASE to host EUSE 2013 Conference in Dublin

IASE to Host European Supported Employment Conference in 2013 in partnership with EUSE (European Union of Supported Employment ) , the conference is scheduled to take place on Tuesday June 11th – Friday June 14th 2013 At Croke Park Conference Centre, Dublin.

 

The conference theme is “Building an inclusive Europe through Supported Employment”.

Sean Gallagher's Address

I feel that there is an onus on me to be a role model those with disabilities. I was born with congenital cataracts but I have never let it limit my goals. This is because I have always focused on what I can do rather than what I cannot.

 

That sense of self-confidence is vital, particularly for those with a disability.  Having a disability should not be allowed to hold you back, but it requires the confidence of the individual and the support of the wider community and the various agencies.

NDA Guidelines

The National Disability Authority produced a guide for employers to assist them in supporting and retaining employees with acquired disabilities.  NDA set up an external panel to ensure that the guide contains practical information for employers, IASE were part of this panel and have agreed to review the guidelines.

Work Wise Conference
 
Report-File

Evaluation of the Work Wise Conference was completed in September 2011.

Some key findings:-

  • 85% - of people with disabilities in attendance did not know about supported employment in advance of the conference
  • 74% of delegates with disability would consider registering with a supported employment service after attending the conference
  • 56% of delegates agreed they had received enough information regarding employment and recruitment to encourage them to consider work  
  • 92% of delegates with disabilities said they would like to obtain further information regarding employment
